Summary of the 2025 Legislative Session
The 2025 Session of the 159th Georgia General Assembly convened on January 13, 2025, and adjourned Sine Die on April 4, 2025. This was the first year of the two-year biennium, so any legislation that did not pass will be eligible for passage in 2026.
During the session, the legislature passed meaningful legislation bolstering the administration of justice in Georgia. The legislature passed HB 85 and HB 86, both of which implement the recommendations made in the Final Report of the Ad Hoc Committee on Judicial Salaries and Supplements (2023) to reform judicial compensation for state-paid judges in Georgia. Increasing court efficiency and effectiveness, HB 179 was passed to authorize digital takedown in courts. Continuing the efforts started in SB 508 (2024), the legislature also passed HB 199 to further refine the processes to restrict from public disclosure the personally identifiable information of judges and their spouses. In addition to these, this summary report highlights many more bills supporting the work of the judiciary.
